Evan Thomas of Newsweek thinks that it is unfortunate that the killer was muslim because now the right wing will become angry. Newsbusters has the story here.
What I find most interesting is that Evan Thomas refers to Hasan’s religion as a “label”. I think he is on to something. I know that is very unfortunate when I see a proud catholic being labeled “a catholic”. You see it just is not fair. It seems intellectually dishonest to infer to Hasan’s religious beliefs had nothing to with his actions. The Washington Post writes
“I’m going to do good work for God,” he told her. Then he walked downstairs, through the grassy courtyard, stepped into his silver Honda Civic and drove to Fort Hood. Four hours later, he allegedly opened fire in the Soldier Readiness Center in a rampage that killed 13 people and wounded 38, the deadliest shooting ever on a U.S. military installation.
The killer also yelled “allhu akbar” before opening fire. This is an arabic term that is usually translated as “god is great”. I sincerly hope that Hasan wakes up from his coma so that he can set the record straight about why he did it. Ending the speculation would stop the baseless political attacks. This would be a good thing for our country.
As a conservative against being offended by things like this I’m highly offended by things like this.
Evan Thomas is a risible fool.
He has long since permanently set aside any pretense of objectivity in his own views, and has all but destroyed what used to be a reliably liberal mainstream publication — Newsweek. For that, I suppose there are some who feel a considerable sense of gratitude.
As a person who publicly claims to be in the “news” business, who but a contemptable idiot would openly express regret that the facts are as they are?
Evan Thomas has now seen Diane Sawyer’s wistful sigh that the shooter’s name was not Smith, and has raised it nearly to the level of a dolorous lamentation!
You may recall that Evan Thomas was the “news” man who recently declared that Barack Obama is above America, even above the world . . . that he is “sort of God.”
Below is his exact quote, and you can watch him say it by clicking on the embedded clip here:
Never mind, of course, that Obama’s obligation by oath, is to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
